Sail A Boat

One morning in the Summer time,
I walked upon the sand;
And there I met two little maids,
Who wandered hand in hand.

I spoke to them, with smiling face,
And said, "now tell to me
Why you are straying on the sand,
So near the rolling sea."

With merry voices, sweet and clear,
They answered unto me;
"We've come to-day, to sail a boat,
As you will shortly see."

Then clasping each, the other's hands
And putting toe to toe;
They turned each other round and round,
As fast as they could go.

And there they spun, till giddy grown,
They dropped upon the sand.
And so those maidens, "Sailed a boat,"
Yet never left the land !
